Exporting from Singapore

Exporting Your Dog or Cat from Singapore to the UK: APHA Health Certificate and Requirements

Taking your pet from Singapore to the UK requires an APHA-endorsed health certificate and, for dogs, a tapeworm treatment. Here is what the Singapore-side and UK-side process involves.

Pawsport Express

Moving from Singapore to the UK with your dog or cat involves two separate sets of requirements: what Singapore requires on the export side, and what the UK requires on the import side. This guide covers both, with Singapore-side steps verified from official AVS sources.

Singapore-side requirements are sourced from avs.nparks.gov.sg. UK-side requirements are sourced from gov.uk/bring-pet-to-great-britain. Always verify current UK requirements at the official government website before proceeding.

UK Import Requirements for Pets from Singapore

Singapore is not a "listed" country for the UK's simplified pet travel scheme. This means the full non-commercial movement documentation process applies.

Requirements for bringing a pet from Singapore to Great Britain:

RequirementDetail
MicrochipISO 11784/11785 (15-digit chip); must be implanted before rabies vaccination is recorded
Rabies vaccinationMust be current; if not previously vaccinated, the vaccination must be given before the health certificate is issued
Animal Health Certificate (AHC)Completed by a Singapore-based Official Veterinarian; issued within 10 days before arrival in GB
Dogs: tapeworm treatmentPraziquantel treatment administered between 1 and 5 days before arrival in GB; recorded on the health certificate
Cats: no tapeworm treatment required

No quarantine in Great Britain if all documentation is correct and current.

The Animal Health Certificate (AHC)

The UK now uses the Animal Health Certificate (AHC) as the standard travel document for pets entering Great Britain from non-listed countries. The AHC is:

  • Completed by a Singapore Official Veterinarian (OV) accredited to issue AHCs
  • Valid for 10 days from the date of issue to the date of arrival in GB (for travel) and 4 months for re-entry purposes — confirm current validity with your vet
  • A legal document that replaces the older pet passport for non-EU/listed country travel

Find an OV in Singapore who is authorised to complete the UK AHC. Your CAPQ agent or Singapore vet may be able to refer you to an appropriate OV.

Dogs: Tapeworm Treatment Requirement

Dogs entering Great Britain from Singapore must receive a tapeworm treatment (Praziquantel or equivalent) administered by a vet. The treatment must be given between 24 hours and 5 days before arrival in Great Britain.

The vet records the treatment, the date, and the product name in the Animal Health Certificate. Arrival without this treatment recorded on the AHC means your dog cannot enter Great Britain.

Plan your departure and the vet appointment so the treatment falls within the 24-hour to 5-day window.

Port of Entry

You must enter Great Britain through a port of entry approved for pet imports. Check the current approved port list at gov.uk/bring-pet-to-great-britain before booking your travel. Not all ports and airports in Great Britain accept non-EU pet arrivals.

Frequently Asked Questions

My dog is already vaccinated against rabies. Do I need to re-vaccinate? Not if the vaccination is current (within the vaccine's valid period as specified by the manufacturer). If the vaccination has lapsed, your dog must be re-vaccinated before the AHC can be issued. Confirm the valid period of your dog's specific rabies vaccine brand with your vet.

Can I use a Singapore pet passport for UK entry? There is no Singapore pet passport. The AHC issued by a Singapore OV is the required document.

Does the tapeworm requirement apply to cats? No. The tapeworm treatment requirement applies to dogs only, not cats entering Great Britain.

What happens if my flight is delayed and the AHC expires? The AHC has a 10-day validity for outward travel. If your departure is delayed beyond 10 days from the AHC issue date, a new AHC must be issued. Factor in flight delay risk when scheduling the vet appointment.
